I love curry and this is a popular dish. It consist mainly of  vegetables. Carrot makes up the majority of the dish Though you don’t know your eating it.Its a very dry dish as it should be so make sure you do reduce the tomatoes go shinny/oily before pouring over the mince.

Lamb mince is traditional as Keema does actually refer to Lamb However  Its still nice with beef.

Ingredients

NB when preparing ingredients those in the same colour can be mixed in the same bowl as they are used in the cooking process at the same time. Those in black are to remain separate.

  • 3 tbls of Oil to cook.keema peas
  • 2 cardamon pods.
  • 1 cinnamon stick.
  • 3 cloves.
  • 1 bay leaf.
  • 1 large Onion Chopped finely.
  • 2 cloves Garlic smashed and chopped roughly.
  • 400 g Tinned Tomato.

  • 1 tsp Ground Coriander.
  • 2 Large Grated Carrots.
  • Frozen peas.
  • Garnish with Fresh Coriander.

Method

Always lightly oil the Hot Pot before use this helps with cleaning and preservation of the Hot Pot.

  1. Heat a sm amount of oil in a large heavy sided frying pan medium high heat. Brown the lamb mince and add it to the slow cooker/Hot Pot.
  2. Remove the fat from the frying pan (use a slice of bread and put it out for the birds).
  3. Heat the  remaining oil in a large heavy sided frying pan high heat, add the cardamon, cinnamon stick, cloves and bay-leaf. Sizzle for about 5 minutes.
  4. Now stir in the Onion, Garlic, Chilies and Ginger. Fry until aromatic spend at least 5 minutes here, the longer you spend with the spices getting all the flavors out the better, This can make or break your curry. But don’t let any of it burn.
  5. Add the tomato’s, Cumin, Garam Masala and  Ground Coriander. Cook Until the tomatoes sort of shine like a oil. stir into the pot with the lamb mince and stir in the carrots.
  6. cook on low for 6-8 hrs.
  7. 20 minutes before serving stir in as many frozen peas as you fancy, I like less other like more just go by sight.  also add a handful of coriander to the top. cover for 20 minutes.

I serve this with turmeric rice, home made raita and a Nan bread.
